October in Louisbourg: Apple Picking & the Little Things Worth Remembering
Share
There is something about the first day of October that makes it feel like fall has officially arrived.
This year, October 1st brought blue skies, warm sunshine and apple picking by the sea. We did a quick drive along the coast looking for apple trees but couldn't get to them with our toddler, there was a lot of thick brush. A sweet neighbor allowed us to pick apples from her tree instead. This tree was so beautiful, tucked away by the waters edge, its branches full of little red apples with a fishing wharf and ocean as the backdrop.

My daughter climbed up with a little help from Dad, reaching into the branches to find the perfect one. It wasn't something we planned. It was just one of those little moments that happens when the weather is on your side, you go outside, exploring somewhere familiar and paying attention to what's around you.

The little things are rarely just the little things
Picking an apple. Walking beside the sea. The warmth of the October sun. Watching your little one get excited about something so simple. These moments can feel ordinary while we're living them, but I have a feeling they're exactly the ones we'll remember.
I've been thinking a lot about finding a little more whimsy in everyday life. Not by creating perfectly planned moments, but by noticing the ones already happening around us. Wild apples by the ocean. Sweaters and shorts on sunny days. Little hands reaching into an apple tree. Maybe that's what a life well lived is made of. Ordinary days we were present enough to notice. 🍎🌊
